About Lessons

The Swim Lesson-only Membership is good for 2 weeks during the swim session applied for, and only valid for lessons, not open swim. An adult may accompany the lesson participant to the pool, but may not swim during the lessons. This membership type is purchased as part of the swim lesson sign-up process.

Family and Individual members do not need a Swim Lesson Membership but do receive a discount for swim lessons.

Cabana Club South offers private swim lessons. Each 2-week session includes 8 lessons of 20-minutes each, taught Monday-Thursday. Lessons are offered:

  • 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and
  • 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm

During the evening lessons, the pool will be partitioned and lessons will occur during regular swim hours.

There will be no more than 10 students in the pool at a time, each with an individual instructor. Swim students are responsible to enter the pool individually and instructors will work to promote social distancing throughout the swim lessons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Private lessons are 20 minutes long and open to students 2 years and older who are willing to enter the pool with the instructor.

Our sessions consist of 8 lessons given Monday through Thursday for two consecutive weeks

Our instructors are trained and certified lifeguards. Many have experience on swim and water polo teams as well as teaching lessons here at the club or at other regional pools.

We encourage swim instructors to talk with parents to clarify expectations and provide feedback. This is an opportunity to address any concerns. If, however, you are not satisfied, please contact the swim lesson coordinator as soon as possible so she is aware of the issues and can make adjustments.

While we are excited about parent involvement, you may not be with your child in the water during the lesson. As instructors, we want to encourage our students to become comfortable swimming with others as well as become confident and safe swimmers. In addition, when the pool becomes crowded, your presence prevents the instructors from doing their job effectively.

If the swim instructor is unavailable to teach a class, a substitute instructor will be provided or the lesson will be rescheduled. However, lessons cannot be rescheduled to accommodate student absences or scheduling conflicts and you will not receive a refund for these days.

Swim lessons are nonrefundable unless the spot is filled by another student. The more notice provided for the cancellation, the more likely the spot can be filled. If the spot is filled by another student, the club will refund the swim lesson minus a $15 cancellation fee.

The pool will be closed if the local AQI reaches 151 or higher (red). Closures due to act of nature (including wildfire smoke) will not be refunded for the first day of closure in a single swim session. If the pool must remain closed for more than one day in a single session, lessons will be rescheduled to a make up day in a future session pending instructor availability.

We aim to keep the water temperature at 83 degrees F.  It may fluctuate a bit due to varying weather conditions.
